December Trashbat is WEDNESDAY the 16th!

Come to Trashbat’s last show of the decade – and our last show before a not-so-secret-anymore relaunch coming SOON. We’re going to be bigger and better than ever.

But before that, we’re throwing one helluva party in December, and we hope you can make it.

Midnight – Top Ten Lovers
http://www.myspace.com/toptenlovers

John Epperly and  Livia Ranalli form this international music journey combining some of the best elements of down home roots rock and Italian progressive rock in a performance that must be taken in live.

11:00pm – GRAY GOODS
http://www.myspace.com/graygoods

Members of Gray Goods formerly comprised half of the excellent Brooklyn band Browns, who split up this summer. (http://www.myspace.com/thecleanbrowns).

Ryan Brown and Austin Davila have now teamed up with Trevor McLoughlin to form Gray Goods, and the early reviews are glowing. Come to Trashbat to check out of their very first shows of this promising new band featuring some of Brooklyn’s finest musical talents.

10pm FATIGO
http://www.myspace.com/fatigo

Fatigo are approaching Trashbat from another direction – Arizona. Check out the video for their great song ‘White Bear’ in the links section below.

9pm SPEEDBUMPS
http://www.myspace.com/speedbumps

Speedbumps will be starting the night with their own brand of chill rock tunes accompanied by an upright bass, a mandolin, and more. They’re visiting Trashbat all the way from their native Ohio.

“The Wowz’ nugget-pop are happy pills for manic-depressives, sucked-out helium from dodgeball-sized balloons… [They] are smart enough to know that cheery self-effacement, far from improper, speaks volumes of sense.” – PITCHFORK

“Antifolkies so raggedy-ass they could be postpunks or something, they have the great virtue of knowing the early Beatles exist — that is, existed.” – ROBERT CHRISTGAU (VILLAGE VOICE)

“Either good music is timeless, or these guys have figured out how to create Beatles-esque and Dylan-ish music without sounding like a tired nostalgia trip. They don’t strictly sound like these artists, but with songs built on strong harmony and a stripped down musical approach, those are the two most obvious comparisons.” – PUNK PLANET, Issue 66

NAKED HEARTS – MIDNIGHT
http://www.myspace.com/thenakedhearts
http://thenakedhearts.com/

“Live and in person, The Naked Hearts are explosive, charming, and something exciting. With Amy Cooper on hollow-body electric guitar and Noah Wheeler on drums, the impeccably turned-out pair ooze a fuzzy rock sincerity; every song is a stripped-down challenge to cut loose”
-Popmatters

“To ignore this band would be to ignore what is going on in New York these days.”
-Pop Tarts Suck Toasted

BUKE AND GASS – 11pm
http://bukeandgass.com/
http://www.myspace.com/bukeandgass

“It doesn’t happen very often that we find out about an emerging rock band that is absolutely mind blowing, both on record and live. Buke and Gass is such a band.

This project can be described as a ‘two man (wall of sound) band’ – although one of them is a woman – in the old fashioned meaning of musicians playing several instruments at once while walking around. B+G don’t walk while performing (they actually sit) but they still manage to play a multitude of instruments at once while singing: bass, guitar, ukulele, kick drum, snare, tambourine and sleigh bells. [...]

But what takes this band to the next (ultimate?) level is the songwriting and live performance. Arone Dyer’s beautiful vocals and melodies have a tension and tone reminiscent of legendary Throwing Muses – or early PJ Harvey.”
-excerpts from Deli Magazine review of their EP
http://www.thedelimagazine.com/FeatureView.php?artist=bukeandgass

“It’s always a special thrill to see a band that forces itself to do more with less. Not only do they end up finding all sorts of ingenious backroad ways to arrive at their music, but their shows seem to radiate with this funny, inspirational charm. [...]

Buke and Gass, a budding two-piece from Brooklyn, is one new band whose ramshackle approach continues to make me smile. Their sound consists of what they call a ‘buke’ (a six-string baritone ukulele), a ‘gass’ (a guitar-bass hybrid they invented), some bells, and a kick-drum. Each member plays both strings and percussion simultaneously, even at live gigs. Impossible, you say? Exactly what I would have said—until my mind was utterly blown, that is, by the musical advent of sitting down.”

SUSU – 10pm
http://www.myspace.com/susuband

Brooklyn noise-rock trio Susu are part of a noise-rock continuum with roots that stretch all the way back into pioneering ’60s freaks like Captain Beefheart, the Velvet Underground, and the Godz, through the Fall in the U.K. and Sonic Youth in the U.S., and from there into ‘90 acts like Unwound, Helium, and Tsunami and thence into the contemporary likes of Deerhoof. Guitarist Andrea Havis and bassist Michael Gabry favor both non-standard tunings and physically aggressive performances both vocally and instrumentally, over drums that ride the fine line between free jazz and utter chaos. Susu began as a more standard post-hardcore band called Surgery Sunday, which also included drummer Justin Bilicki and two other guitarists. As Havis and Gabry took control of the band’s musical direction, the band slimmed down to the trio of themselves and Bilicki and shortened their name from Surgery Sunday to the equally meaningless but more lyrical Susu. Working with producer Martin Bisi, a key figure from the New York avant-garde scene of the 1980s which is one of Susu’s key musical touchstones, the trio recorded their self-titled debut in 2006. Following its release, Bilicki was replaced by Oliver Riviera Drew for the band’s second set, the 2007 EP Win. Win was released both as a six-track digital download and as a limited-edition three-track vinyl EP on eMusic.com’s In-house label, eMusic Selects, bypassing CD formats entirely.

“This band’s shouty, raucous noise rock is both aggressive and relentless, only slightly softened by guitarist Andrea Havis’ backing vocals.”
-”SPIN Picks: 8 Undiscovered Bands Worth a Listen”
http://www.spin.com/articles/spin-picks-8-undiscovered-bands-worth-listen-0

“One of the great things about Susu is that they’re absolutely riveting to watch, because each of the three members has a compelling stage presence.”
-Deli Magazine

THE FACE – 9:45pm

Want to save money?

The easiest way I can think of is to bring a flier to Trashbat and get two dollars off at the door.

Didn’t get one of our fliers or don’t have a printer? Who cares! Make your own Trashbat flier and we will still give you $2 off.

Plus starting with Trashbat II we are going to be giving away a free spot on the guest list +1 and a free drink ticket to the following Trashbat event for the person who’s homemade flier is most mexico. The only rules are, the flier has to say Trashbat on it somewhere, and you have to put your email address on the back so we can contact you… easy right?
